PS. I Still Love You is the second book in the Lara Jean series and for me, it was a disappointment. I absolutely loved the first book To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before; it was cute, funny, and the dialogue was great. In this second book I felt that it lacked depth. The characters were underdeveloped and even more so, the plot was lacking; nothing really happened. In addition, the dialogue fell short and lacked substance. With that said, I did still enjoy reading about the family dynamic in the story and about Lara Jean’s friendship with Chris. And although I had some problems with how Peter and Lara Jean, I still enjoyed reading about them. I probably have a bias in my rating as I really loved the first book. I’m excited for the third book! I’m so excited to fall in love with the characters again ❤

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
When I started this book I was intrigued by Tahereh Mafi’s writing style. It is poetic, dramatic, and easy to read. It is also unique because there are crossed words and sentences which represents what the character crosses out (ie. the book is written in first person). I also was interested to read about Juliette’s power and how she uses it.
However, as I was around halfway through the story, the writing style for me became repetitive and felt overly dramatic, which sometimes took away from the emotion. One of the main problems I had was how centered it was around romance. It started with insta love- a trope I dislike- and continued to put the focus on the relationship between Juliette and Adam. Because of this, the story really lacked focus on other areas like character development, world building, and plot building. The first book felt more of a summary/ teaser of a story to come. I do plan to read the second book as I’ve heard that the series gets a lot better!

The Book World 
Yeah PS I love you was a disappointment for me too- but I personally think always and forever picked up again and was a great conclusion (just a case of middle book syndrome I guess). And I wasn’t won over by shatter me either- I agree the writing style felt repetitive after a while and the romance was too instalovey. But I did think the rest of the series picked up massively! Great reviews!
Yes, the last book definitely made me forget the things I disliked in the second book! Overall the series was so good.
Have you read the other books in the Shatter Me series? I haven’t because there’s so many books I want to read and I’m not sure if I want to continue the series as of now, but sometime in the future!

These were fun little mini-reviews! Shatter Me sounds really interesting, but I don’t like when romance is the center of books where the protagonist is the chosen one to save the world. Like, if war is breaking out, the last thing I’m doing is chasing after a boy.

I read Shatter Me years ago but never finished the series. I think I read the second book, but I can’t remember. I’m sorry it fell flat for you. It’s one I was planning on re-reading so I could finish the series, but I just haven’t had the time yet. Maybe once I’m caught up on everything else!

Great reviews, Sissi! I also liked P.S. I Still Love You the least out of the trilogy, and the third book was my favorite for sure. 🙂 I haven’t read Shatter Me, but I’ve heard quite a few not as great things about it, so I don’t know if I’ll end up reading it.

I’m glad you’re going to give the second book in the Shatter Me series a chance! I adore this series, but I totally agree that the first book isn’t very good. Things definitely start to get better after that one though 🙂 Juliette goes through tons of character development. And the romance… that aspect gets a LOT more complex and interesting, to say the least!
